@unfa has made me want to try the “Jami” experience again.
I put my nickname in my profile, and it's a little less intrusive than giving a phone number. It's very secure, and there are apps for Linux, Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
If you feel like it, it's a very nice application for chatting, exchanging, video, etc...
