Why in 2022 some people are still using IRC is beyond me.
This is ancient technology that barely does what it's supposed to do. It's time to stop! There's so many better libre solutions! IRC must die!

@unfa I'm not OK - IRC has the advantage to be "textual" and a simple protocol. So I can use it on a TTY (no X session) when I manipulate a broken server / computer to ask for help.
It should be kept alive at least for technicians as I am.

@metal3d That is a very unique use case. There's a slew of commandline clients for Matrix that you can use as well in such scenarios though. matrix.org/clients/

Matrix protocol is complex and overkill to only have an easy server or client configuration. I don't say that Matrix is bad, I only say that IRC is not a bad choice for many reasons.
From my point of view, it's like saying that we should abandon terminal in profit to Gnome / KDE...
